Your work was accepted. The flight shouldn't be the reason you don't go.
Why Vuelo exists
The gap
A program committee reads the work, not the budget. That is the entire point of blind review, and it is why a seventeen-year-old can land a poster at the same venue as a funded lab.
Then the acceptance arrives and the terms quietly change. Registration, a long-haul flight, four nights near the venue. For a doctoral student that is a line item someone already approved months ago. For a high schooler it is a number their family has to find in six weeks, for a conference nobody at their school has heard of.
Who we fund
Students who have already done the difficult part. They taught themselves the maths, wrote the code after school, trained on whatever free compute they could find, and then survived review by people who do this for a living.
They are not asking anyone to take a chance on them. The reviewers already did that. What is missing is a plane ticket, and a plane ticket is a far easier problem to solve than original research.
Roughly one in five hundred presenters at a major research conference is a high school student. We don't believe that reflects how many of them have earned the right to be there. The barrier is cost, not capability
How to apply
Submit your research to a recognized conference and receive an acceptance for a paper, poster, or workshop talk.
One form: your acceptance letter, logistics info, and a few lines about the work itself.
We review on a rolling basis and book directly, so no student is asked to front the cost and wait on a reimbursement.
What we cover
Travelling with a chaperone or guardian? Tell us in the application — we account for it case by case rather than turning the request down.
